Our Commitments

How we work, who we listen to and what we can show.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Students should have the support to lead as themselves. Next of Us pledges to make leadership guidance easier to access and more responsive to the students using it.

We will:

  • Seek input from underrepresented students and people with different experiences of school, college, and community leadership.
  • Use clear language and readable layouts, and improve accessibility as we identify barriers in our resources.
  • Give students a way to tell us what is missing or needs to change, and use that feedback when updating our work.
  • Get appropriate permission before sharing someone’s story, photo, or personal information, and respect how they want to be represented.

Environmental sustainability

We want to be thoughtful about the materials and energy our work requires. Next of Us pledges to reduce avoidable waste while keeping resources useful and accessible.

We will:

  • Design tools students can reuse and adapt, and update existing resources when their content needs to change.
  • Make digital resources available while recognizing that digital work also has an environmental cost.
  • Consider whether printing is needed and support paper copies when they help students participate.
  • Consider environmental impact when planning materials and activities, and avoid claims about environmental savings that we cannot substantiate.

Social impact

We want students to have practical support for contributing to the places and people they care about. Next of Us pledges to connect leadership learning with action in schools, on campuses, and in communities.

We will:

  • Keep a useful collection of leadership resources free to access, with guidance students can adapt to their setting.
  • Seek input from students and community members, including the people a project is intended to support.
  • Provide tools that help students plan, share responsibility, follow through, and reflect on what happened.
  • Be honest about what we have created, what people tell us, and what we can demonstrate. We will not present downloads or participation alone as proof of impact.
