About / Our Approach
Start with the work.
Find a next step.
Start with something your group is dealing with. Read an example, compare ideas and decide what to try.
Read. Discuss.
Try. Reflect.
- 1
Name the situation.
What’s happening, and what needs a decision? Write down what you know and what you still need to find out.
- 2
Understand the idea.
Read the explanation and see how it fits your group. Who makes the decision? Who will it affect?
- 3
Talk through an example.
Look at one possible response. What works? What’s missing? How might someone else see it?
- 4
Try something practical.
Choose one thing to try. Check that it fits your role, your time and the approvals your group needs.
- 5
Reflect and adjust.
Ask how it went for the people involved. Decide what to keep, what to change and what you still need to learn.
Room for judgment
Adapt the tool.
Check the context.
Change the questions and wording to fit your group. Whether you’re dividing up tasks or planning an event, everyone should be able to understand and use the plan.
Check authority, current procedures, access and approvals with the responsible adult, advisor, office or organization. Bring in appropriate support when a situation needs it.
