High school

Make a proposal people can decide on

Explain what's happening at school, back it up and ask for a specific change.

Ask for a specific change. Explain the problem, how you know it's happening and who it affects. Then describe your idea, the people and materials it needs, and any costs you still need to check. Find out who can decide and what they need from you. Be ready for questions or a smaller trial of the idea. Finish by asking for a clear decision and finding out how you'll hear back.

Talk it through

  • What exact decision are you asking the school to make?
  • Whose experience supports the concern, and whose view is still missing?
  • What would a small, workable version of the proposal require?

Try this next

  1. Write the concern and proposed change in a few plain sentences.
  2. Gather examples of the problem and check the time, materials and costs with a staff supporter.
  3. Find out who can approve the idea, prepare a clear request and ask when you can expect an answer.
