High school

Work out what you can decide

Find out what you can decide, what the group decides and what needs school approval.

You've got an idea. Now find out who can approve it. Some choices are yours, some belong to the group and some need a staff member's permission. Try sorting this out for a real task, like changing a club meeting or posting an announcement. Ask where the school's current process is explained and what information the person deciding will need. Check early so you can make a clear request without promising something you can't confirm yet.

Talk it through

  • Which part of this task are you actually responsible for deciding?
  • Who else would be affected by a change to the plan?
  • How will you check whether staff approval is needed?

Try this next

  1. Choose one upcoming task and list the decisions involved.
  2. Check each decision with the group or staff supporter and record who handles it.
  3. Prepare the information needed for the first decision that is outside your role.
