What we will do differently

Look back at what happened, what helped and one thing you’d change next time.

The situation

Your group has finished an activity. Some parts went well; others were harder than expected. People have different ideas about why.

Your decision

Use what the group noticed to choose one thing to change next time.

Before you respond

  • What happened? Can you give a specific example?
  • What did others notice?
  • What’s one change you could realistically try?

Work through it

  1. Describe what the group did and how it went. Leave individual ratings out of it.
  2. Compare what people noticed and be clear about what you still don’t know.
  3. Pick one change and agree on when you’ll check whether it helped.
Consider a possible response

“We saw some things differently. Getting the details late made it harder to prepare. Could we check them earlier next time, then see whether that helps?”

This is one way to respond. Adapt it to your group, your responsibilities and the people involved.
