Community / Practice example

An agreed next action

Agree on what you’ll do, who you’ll check with and when you’ll talk about how it went.

The situation

A community meeting is wrapping up. Several people have offered to help, but no one has agreed on who will do what.

Your decision

Turn “I can help” into a specific task you and the group agree on.

Before you respond

  • What can you realistically take on?
  • Who do you need to check with before you start?
  • When will you talk about how it went?

Work through it

  1. Offer to do one specific thing you can follow through on.
  2. Agree on who’s doing it and what needs checking first.
  3. Agree on when you’ll report back and how.
Consider a possible response

“I can check that with the person responsible and bring back what I find out. When should we go through it together?”

This is one way to respond. Adapt it to your group, your responsibilities and the people involved.
